"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"
Here's some scenes from home that I thought you might love to see! Yes, we are getting snow!
It is so pretty, I just love the snow when I don't have to travel in it! We got about 5 inches and got about 3 more today! The ski resort, Sunrise opened today, they said this is the biggest storm they've had in 10 years!! You kids want to come home to snow board??
We won't be eating out on the patio for awhile!!
My poor little Santa looks rather cold and frozen!
The trees and everything were all covered with snow, its a winter wonderland! Yeah for snow! I wonder if we will have a white Christmas??

Reed's Crazy Week!
Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2007
Hey fam! Well I dont have much time today but a ton has happened this past week. Well I am here with Elder Cipriano in Natal in an area called Boa Esperana. Well, this past week has been crazy. I´ll start with Thursday. I had only worked in the area for 1 day and Elder Cipriano
had to go and get the paperwork for the marriage on Friday so we did a division. I stayed in the Area and worked while he went and got the paper. Well I just walked around trying to find people to teach on the spot. Well to say the least the day wasn't the greatest day ever. I had
taught a couple of people but nobody was really interested. Well, I was kinda bummed out and it was 7:30 or so and we hadn't talked to anybody that was really interested in anything we said. I taught a catholic family but they weren't interested in changing religions, and also a 12 year old kid that wouldn't pay attention. But anyways, around 7:40 I just wanted to go home and crawl in bed because I was so tired. But we kept going and I talked to this family outside their door. Well they seemed really nice and I asked if we could share a message with them. Well they accepted and we taught the first lesson (well it was me and a member and so I did most of the talking). We entered their house and they don't have 1 chair, they have 3 kids, they don't have a table, the mattresses are on the ground, and the walls were just covered with drawing and sayings that you don't want your 4 year olds to see. Well anyway, we taught them the 1st lesson and they were way receptive to everything and accepted to prepare to be baptized when they know that the things are true. Well it was a good lesson and it made the day a whole lot better. That night we were walking and I ran into the family that was going to be married and baptized on Friday. Well the bride's sister killed herself that day and so they headed to Santa Cruz, a city
here close, but the wedding was going to be Friday but it was postponed until tonight.
Well, Friday was a day to remember. Elder Cipriano went to Nova Cruz to resolve a different wedding. Every elder that has passed here has tried to marry this lady that is going to church. She goes every week and she wants to get baptized but the problem is is that she isn't married. She doesn't even live with the guy, but the big problem is that her husband is in jail. Well, Elder Cipriano is crazy and decided to marry them at all costs so that she could be baptized. Well, we organized everything with the courthouse there close to the jail and it was all set for Friday. So he went there with a member and the Bishop and I stayed here with a member and continued the work, not even knowing how to get around in the area. Well at lunch a member told us about this thing that was going on downtown: FREE MARRIAGES! Well I got more info from her and she said that it was only Thursday and Friday until 6:00. Well I ran and went to the familys house that I had taught the night before and we asked them if they wanted to get married today (Yes I am going crazy, who in the world knows a person for 1 day and the next rushes to their house and asks if they want to get married right now) Well they thought and we gave them 20 minutes to talk it over and 20 minutes later we sent back and they said that they wanted to. Well I ran to our house and grabbed a shirt and tie and some dress pants and ran back, they changed really fast and we went to the park where it was going on. Well we got there at 5:20 or so and when we got there we talked to the judge and she said that it was only Thursday! Well we were bummed but it was an adventure. We gave them money to go back home and they stayed downtown and played for a while. Saturday we went to the houses of all the people we had talked with during the week to remind them about church. Sunday we had conference. It
was pretty sweet. It was broadcasted by satellite and the presiding Bishop spoke, Elder Nelson, Julie B Beck spoke (she spoke in Portuguese), another seventy spoke in Portuguese, and then President Hinckley spoke. It was sweet. It was like a mini general conference. Well we had 11
people that went including the family that I had taught on Thursday. Well it was a good Sunday and now were are running trying to prepare a lot of people to be baptized. Well Monday we went to the courthouse and the family, Dinilson and Marie Jose will be married here in a couple of weeks. We painted their house today and it is 100% better. We have a marriage tonight of Guriaciano and Delziana and then they will be baptized afterwards. Well life is good. This is just a quick overlook of my crazy week. It is better being way busy then not knowing what to do.
Well I love you all and hope all is well.

Today is going to be a quickie email because I am on this really ghetto computer- it is one of those ginormous ones and the screen is being held together with masking tape. To say the least, it is reallllly slow! I was excited to hear that Kingston was born and that he is healthy
and everything went well. I didn't get to see the pictures due to the turtle computer I'm on, but I'll check them out on Monday. Yay! That is so exciting! Congrats to you Bret and Becki- you will be great parents.
The longer that I've been here in Huntington Park I've come to see just how ghetto that it is. They've never ever had sisters here until about 6 months ago and I can see why! It's about 40% blacks, 60% latins and me! hehe! We don't tract after 5pm because it is not safe and so we try to do our appointments and less-actives in the evenings. It's fun though and I'm getting my eyes opened even more! I love my mission!
As far as the work goes things are going okay. Eric, James, and Armando all came to church on Sunday and Eric and James have cut down a little on smoking... that will be a big process. I forgot to tell you one of the saddest/funniest things about dear James... He doesn't have any teeth because his dentures got stolen! The poor man has had such a difficult life- who in the world would steal someone's dentures anyways?! It's really hard to try to help him to quit smoking because he can't chew gum or eat candy because he doesn't have any teeth! That's all he wants for Christmas he said. Every night with grins on our faces we pray
that James will get some teeth. He smokes a whole lot because he can't really eat anything. Anyways, so that's what we're working with right now!
Yesterday I just found out that 3 of the people I was teaching in Maywood got baptized! I was so happy because these were people that I found and really loved. I feel like my time there was of a little more worth now. You just never know the good you are really doing and the lives that are being changed by you- I forget that a lot.
Our apartment is done being sprayed for termites (we had to move out for 5 days) and so today we are moving back in. Things are always pretty crazy here, but like Reed said, that's much better than wondering what to do with our time. I love you all and will write more on Monday.

BABY KINGSTON IS HERE!!!
Becki and baby unfortunately started having some complications. She dilated to 7 but she was running a temperature of 103 (BAD)which the doctors say was because the placenta had an infection and her body was trying to fight it. Little Kingstons heart rate was high at about 180 and he was ready to come out! We tried to calm him down with some Kenny-g Christmas music on her belly- CUTE! She wasn't dilating quick enough and the good staff at Scottsdale Osborn found it necessary to take the baby by C-section. Good friends Trey Whiting and Platt came to give a blessing. THANK YOU! Becki calmed right down and truly was such a trooper! She was all smiles in recovery and couldn't wait to get some hot chocolate! She had been shaking and shivering for hours. That will wear a person right out! What a beautiful Mommy and baby! GOOD JOB

Otra vez!
Date: Tue. 04 Dec 2007
Well dear family- transfers have come and gone and looks like I will be spending the last 3 months of my mission here in the area of Vernon, aka little Mexico! It is right by Huntington Park, which is considered the ghetto of the mission (story of my mission!) I was very surprised to get the news that i would be staying spanish. I was certain that I would go English because I have been Spanish my whole entire mission. It's interesting because I am the ONLY missionary in the whole mission that has not served in an English area... I think the Lord wants me to learn Spanish and to learn something from the wonderful Latin people. These last three months I really need to focus on Spanish and try to really learn from these people, because obviously there is more I need to learn from them. To be honest, I was a tiny bit disappointed to hear that I would be coming to Huntington Park, but only because I thought a change of scenery would be nice (although I really do love all the grafittied walls, gum-covered streets, shoes hanging from telephone poles, taco trucks, barred windows and yappy little dogs). It is a good area though and the longer I'm here the more I'm loving the people. It is very similar to Maywood and Wilmington- lots of teaching, but not many who progress. Vamos a ver que pasara.I know that there is a reason that I'm here and that there are lessons for me to learn and people for me to
touch. I am very excited! My companion's name is Hermana Marroquin from Quatemala/ Washington D.C. she has been out 16 months and goes home with me in Febuary. We are trying not to be trunky together and are working hard and having fun. We live with a member, which is a bit interesting. Right now I'm sleeping on this dumb little cot that has springs popping out of it and is really flimsy. After the first night I called the misison home up and said that I neeeeed a bed because I have back problems. So gratefully they are in the process of getting me a bed, but until then my back is not feeling too good! The thrills of a mission! I didn't even unpack my suitcases either becasue there is nowhere to put our stuff in our tiny bedroom. Luckily it will only be three months though! Besides those little details, it is great and I'm just happy that I
have a place to live that has light and carpet and a bathroom.
We have a few investigators, but are, as usual, in the process of looking for more. We have Armando who is set for baptism the 23 of December, but is having a hard time moving out of the apartment where he lives with a lady (they insist that they are nothing, nonetheless he still
has to move out, but doesn't seem to understand the big importance of it.) He's about 50 and is a humble, quiet man. He's really good and has a testimony of the church. We also have Eric and James. Oh man. I could write the rest of this email about those two- they are just both something else! James is from Jamaca and is way black with this white curly hair. When he talks he never says "I" rather "me" ("me went to the store and me bought you this...") it is pretty funny. He suffers from memory loss and so it makes it interesting to teach him. He also has
siezures regulary and so smokes a lot of tabacco because it calms him down. His roommate is Eric who is the only other white person in this town besides me. He is 31 and is always seen dragging an empty blue suitcase behind him- always- whether it's at church or the bus stop he always has that silly blue suitcase! I haven't asked why yet. When we called to invite him to church the first thing he said was "ya okay. I'll come. And I'll bring my suitcase." He's a bit wierd to say the least! But, they are our best investigators right now and soo sweet! It surprises me
how much I have come to love such wied people on my mission! They really are my friends and I feel so grateful to have my eyes opened a little more and see how Heavenly Father loves all his children, despite our quirks.
Friday we had a really cool activity with the HP ward. It started out in the gym where there were all these booths with different games and activities. For the games like basketball and bowling the people would receive a red ticket. For the booths like reading a scripture or
singing a hymn, the people would receive a white ticket. Everyone was just in the gym playing and playing, but randomly 2 elders, dressed in pure white, would come and take people out of the room. From there the people would wait and then go to a judgement (with the bishop and counselor). They were then all judged according to their tickets- whether there were more white or red. From there they were assigned to one of three different rooms. Of course you know what those were. My comp and I were in the Celestial Kingdom room. There everything was White- white fabric on the walls and floor, white coverings on the chairs, and we were dressed in all white too. It was so peaceful and beautiful- similar to the temple. Anyways, the other 2 rooms were so different and there really were such differnt feelings in all three. It was a very impacting activity for everyone. Parents would be in the celestial room just waiting and
hoping that there kids would soon come and although it was just fake, you could see the saddness in their eyes when their family never came and the joy when one would come and they'd hug and smile. It was a really cool activity and really touched everyone. I'll try to send pictures, but wanted to tell you about it and maybe you could try it too.
Yesterday we had our amazing christmas zone conference. I've been feeling a little like I was dying, but now I feel much better and am back to myself! The Lord always knows just what I need. It really hit me how limited my time really is and how precious this time is. I love my
mission and serving the Lord and although I am tired, I can't loose focus
of the great joy and privlege that it is. Just pray that I'll stay focused and enthusiastic about the work. I love you all so much and am glad you all had a great holiday. Thank you for the updates. Next time I'll probably be hearing about Kingston! YAY! Good luck to all in finals and in work. Work hard and pray hard and it will all be okay! You are the best of the best and I love you

Hello family! Well how is everyone doing? I love getting letters and hearing how things are going. Mom keeps me pretty updated but its good to hear from everyone else too. So are Mark and Holly staying there in our house or in a different house in Eagar? I wish I could be there to
hangout with Kaemon and Mileia. Anyway, It has been a busy week here in Brasil.
Ill start with last week. Thursday we went to Natal because on Friday was "counsel" with all the Zone Leaders. So Thursday we worked in Felipe Camarao and I got to see a few people that I had baptized there. I saw Maria and Francisco and they are doing good. I bought a magazine
of the temples that I am going to give to them because here in March they will be able to go through the temple and get married for time and all eternity! I also saw Wellington and Wedson. Maybe you remember the pics of their baptism. They have long hair and they are brothers. Well Wellington is 20 now and Wedson is 18. They are both filling out their papers to serve missions and Wellington cut his hair. I didnt recognize him when I saw him. He said that he was walking on the street one day and he walked past a barbershop and the wind blew hair over his eyes and he decided, 'today is the day.' And he went and cut his hair. He hasnt cut it for 3 years! Well I am excited for him. He wants to leave as soon as he completes 1 year as a member which will be in February. His brother hasnt cut his hair yet but its just a matter of time. He is the Elders Quorum Secretary right now. I was excited to see them and see them doing so good.
Well Friday was counsel in Joao Pessoa and it was good. It was a bummer because we have to present our last months work in front of all the zone leaders and the month of November was just horrible for me. But it wasnt too bad, I knew that I was doing my part and it was just a lesson I need to learn. We got back on Saturday morning really early and I have been really tired these past few days. Well Sunday was good. Ronaldo and Jean were baptised. They are 2 young men and are really excited about going to church. They want to receive the priesthood and pass the sacrament. Antonio also came to church. He is that man I talked about last week, that has a few problems walking but he went to church on Crutches. There is a bus that takes the people to church that stops pretty close to his house so it wasnt too bad. Well he liked church a lot. He just needs to stop smoking, so we took his pack of cigarettes and gave him so gum and candy to help him stop and he didnt smoke Saturday or Sunday. I know he will stop and be baptised.
Well, Sunday night, the Assistants called and told me and Elder Almiro that we would be transfered to different areas. So I am now here in Natal, Surprise surprise, emergency transfered again! Monday afternoon we left Mossoro and so I am here in na area called Pajuçara with Elder Cipriano. I was bummed because 5 weeks isnt enough time to do anything
and now I am in a different area and it will be really dificult to go back to Mossoro. Well here In Pajuçara it is good.It is cooler but not too much cooler. We have a few people in our teaching group that should be baptised this week. There is a family that is just waiting to get married to get baptised and Friday will be the marriage and the baptism. They are pretty young, 21 and 23 years old and they are crazy. We took them to the bishops house last night and it was hilarious. My companion is crazy, the family is crazy, and the bishop and his wife are crazy too. It was a good time and we planned everything for the wedding on Friday.
Well, I gotta go, but i am doing good. I just go where they tell me to go and everything will work out right. 'Aonde mandares irei, Senhor...' or in Ingles it is 'Ill go where you want me to go dear
Lord...' Well things here are good. My companion is hilarious and it should be a good time. The zone here isnt known for baptizing a lot of people but things will change here. I trust in the Lord and know that everthing will be okay. EGBOK Everythings gonna be OK! Haha. So it looks
like ill be here for Christmas. Here in a couple of weeks Ill send the info about the call and everything because we wont be able to call the day before to plan everything but Ill send and email with all the info. Well I love you all and hopeall is well there. Keep me updated on
everything and send pics!
