"Perfect 10" in 2010 Challenge

So Family- a new year is upon us, and of course with new years come new resolutions. Ryne and I have come up with ten things that we want to work on. These ten things are pretty basic, but we feel like we can do better and we want to challenge all of you as well- its always nice to have a good support group! If you accept the challenge I will e-mail you a nice little check list for you to keep track. I think it would be awesome to call 2010 a perfect year in these things. Here they are:

Daily:
1. Personal Prayer
2. Family/couple prayer
3. Personal scripture reading
4. Family/Couple scripture reading

Weekly:
5. Family home evening
6. Journal writing (mine is our blog)

Monthly:
7. Attend the temple
8. Home teaching/ Visiting teaching
9. Fast and give a generous fast offering
10. Pay a full tithe

"In the Savior’s parable of the ten virgins, each young woman had a lamp. Clearly, this parable has both a temporal and a spiritual application. Oil can be purchased at the market. But another kind of oil, spiritual oil that is not for sale, can be accumulated only by our daily good works.

The parable tells what happened as all ten young women waited for the bridegroom. The bridegroom came at the darkest hour, when least expected. It was midnight, and the foolish five had run out of oil. You might wonder why the five wise virgins could not share their oil with the other five. It was not selfishness on their part. Spiritual preparedness cannot be shared in an instant because we each fill our lamps drop by drop in our daily living." - President Faust

Spencer W. Kimball defined those drops of oil for us when he said:

“There are oils that keep the gospel burning brightly. One type of oil is the oil of family prayer. It illuminates us and makes us bright and cheery but is difficult to obtain at midnight. One drop or two will not keep the lamp burning long.

“Another type of oil is the oil of fasting. The last midnight is late to start disciplining our lives in preparation for the great day of the Lord. …

“Another oil that is not available at midnight is the indispensable oil of home service. This rare oil of service is accumulated through visits to the sick, through lending a helping hand. …

“There is another oil that all will need—rich or poor, sick or well. Its light is brilliant and increases with use. The more that is used, the more that is left. It is easy to purchase in the day but not available at night. This is the tithing oil."

My new flight gear...they were handing stuff out like candy. It was like Christmas. I've now finished the academic part of flight school, which I enjoyed a lot. We get 2 weeks off for Christmas break after which primary will start where I'll get 5 flights in a helicopter and 7 in the training turboprop plane. Should be fun. Merry Christmas to all. Wish we could see everyone.

Thanksgiving Week with the family!

Thanksgiving was a few weeks ago, but I've been busy until now. Plus I didn't get many pictures for some reason! The kids all went up shooting clay pigeons and had fun doing that. On Sat. we stomped through the snow and found a couple of really nice Christmas trees, but I forgot my camera! Check out Lisa's blog, she got some with her phone! Here's Chad, Barry, Ryne & Kirk! Kirk and Kari showed up to dinner dressed as pilgrims! We were all impatiently waiting for them to come to the table, and wondering what was taking them so long! While we were watching movies the night before, Kari was sewing away, supposedly for a 'school project'! It was so cute and just made our Thanksgiving Feast all the better!

My girls are sooo buff!! They all did this HARD kick boxing workout that lasted at least an hour and half! They did this every morning too! Chad & I joined in on Sat for about half an hour and that was all we could handle!! At least they worked off their Thanksgiving Dinner!!

Special Day!!

It was a special day for the Dawes family on Nov 21st! My twin sister, Sherry was sealed to our Mom and Dad and the rest of us in the Mesa Temple. I told her, now we are all stuck with each other, forever! It was a happy day! Here's a picture of some who attended. Those that came, but somehow missed getting in the family photo, were Ryne & Tami and J'net & Bryan.
Shelly & LaVerl Crosby, Sherry & Steve Welker, Lillian & Don Dawes, and Sonja and Randy Lee.

Bad boy!!!

LaVerl has been so proud of all his chickens! His girls have been laying lots of eggs that we've been eating and he's also been hatching out alot of little chicks. Lately, however, he's been finding dead chickens! Every couple of days, he'll find another dead one, until now we are down to 5 chickens!! He thought it was a skunk, a raccoon, or maybe a wessel. He's had his trap set for over a week and just could not catch the varmint, he was just to SLY........ but today he caught him!!!

I didn't eat yesterday, I haven't eaten today, and I'm not going to eat tomorrow...

Because I'm a SUPERMODEL!!!

Well, I guess I'll be the first to post the halloween costumes, even through I wasn't really planning on being part of the little competition. I figure I will get things rolling though (afterall, it took me getting married to get you others to do so too:) )

So the Friday before Halloween at school the students had free dress day. Of course they all wanted to dress up and I couldn't bare to be left out. Friday morning Kirk and I pulled stuff out of our closets and came up with this costume... at first I was going to be a nerd, then I decided I'd be a junior high student (same thing though, right!), and as I was driving to work I decided to be an aspiring supermodel. I talked very nerdy all day, carried around this magazine which I glued my face to, signed autographs and posed for pictures. The students thought it was the funniest thing ever.

Because Two People Fell in Love....

This is my Dad & Mom,, Don & Lillian Dawes. They met in Tillamook, Oregon and Dad fell in love at his first site of mom. They had 4 kids and I am one of them. I'm so lucky and blessed to have them as my parents. This is what they started...
LaVerl and I met at BYU and after a 4 year relationship, fell in love and got married in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He was from Eagar, AZ and my older sister, Sonja had already married a boy from Eagar! It was meant to be!
This is our oldest son Mark who met and fell in love with Holly Huish while attending ASU. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They now have 3 beautiful children, Kaemon, Milea and Zallen!

Our son Chad is not married yet, but who knows??? He is all the our grandkids MOST FAVORITE UNCLE!!

Our 3rd son Bret, fell in love with Becki Wright after meeting her while they were both counselors at EFY and they married in the Salt Lake Temple. They have given us 2 beautiful Grandbabies, Kingston and London!

Lisa, our oldest daughter fell in love with Barry Keime and they were married in the Mesa Temple in June! Our 3rd daughter to marry within the year!!

Our second daughter Kari met and fell in love with Kirk Kinsey while working at the MTC after her mission. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple last Nov.

Here is the most newly married couple!! Reed met Natali Wyson while attending BYU and they were just married in the St. George Temple!!

Our baby girl Tami married her high school sweetheart, Ryne Peters in May at the Mesa AZ Temple!
That's 4 weddings within a year and we feel so blessed that our children have found their eternal companions to share their lives with. Their spouses are such great additions to our family. So the tradition will continue--"Because Two People Fell in LOVE"......

Family Trip to San Diego

We all started arriving in San Diego on Friday evening, those that got there early got to eat dinner out, some chose Thai, some Mexican food. Mark & Holly had their house full, some of the kids slept in tents in their backyard, some in their living room, some of us at a motel. The plan for the next morning was to go to the San Diego Temple. Mark, Chad, Kari & Kirk got up really early and made the 6am session so that they could attend a free cross-training workout at a gym at 9am. Tami & Ryne also went to that. (She was so very sad she'd forgotten her recommend!)
The rest of us attended a later session and skipped the workout. Thank goodness, most were all so sore they couldn't walk the next day!!

LaVerl & Shelley in front of the beautiful temple! Barry & Lisa and us!

Lunch was fun in Old Town at Cafe Coyote, good food, good times!
