JUNE 19TH, early Monday morning we drove to Show Low so LaVerl could get his shoulder operated on! He had an MRI done earlier that showed he had a torn rotator cuff and that surgery was the only way it would get better. He wasn't able to hardly lift his right arm up anymore and it was hurting him pretty bad!
We had to be at the surgery center at 6:00am.
Even without any hair, they made him wear this funny cap!
Look at that good blood pressure!
The anesthesiologist came in and he gave LaVerl something in his IV that pretty much knocked him out. Then with the help of an ultra-sound machine, he found a special nerve that he injected something that numbed Dad's whole arm--for 48 hours! It also numbed his vocal cords, he couldn't hardly talk until later that night! Dr. Reagan came in shortly after and Dad asked him if he had a good nights sleep, but he doesn't even remember that!
Dr. Reagan said everything went good in the surgery. He said LaVerl had a torn bicep muscle that couldn't be attached because it had happened so long ago and had lots of scar tissue.
LaVerl went into surgery at 7:30am and was out about 9:20.
He was in recovery for another hour, then we headed home. We were home by noon!! Isn't that amazing?
Day 3, after keeping ice on it for 72 hours, I took off the big padded bandage. All he has is four, maybe five little cuts in his shoulder where they did the arthroscopic procedure. The purple lines I think are markers. He will have the stitches removed at his next post-op appointment on July 6th. He is doing pretty good, hasn't been in too much pain, he still gets out and waters and works in his gardens a little. Sitting around is pretty hard for him!!
