Julian

So Saturday we checked out a little town east of SD in the mountains called Julian. We visited this old mine that had a train that the kids loved. The kids also enjoyed pumping water from a well, panning for gold and cashing in their gold for Red Vines. Later we ate at Miner's Diner and got some pie at the famous Julian Pie Company. It was tasty...and we bought a frozen pie to share with all y'all that come for Zallen's blessing.

Turbo Time!!

So remember when Lisa, Tami, Mom and I used to do Tae Bo together in the living room and you all (meaning my dear brothers) would just watch and laugh? Well, laugh no more because I am now a certified Turbo Kickboxing instructor! When I moved to Provo 6 years ago I joined Gold's Gym and started taking the Turbo Kickboxing classes because they were a lot like Tae Bo and I soon became addicted. I have been wanting to get certified to teach it and just last week I took the written and practical exam (talk about nerve-racking! The girl just stood there and watched me do the different kicks and jabs and took notes on her little clipboard). It went from 9 am until 5:30 pm and believe it or not, they actually liked me and  certified me! Sooo, I can officially teach Turbo Kick anywhere in the world- get paid to work out! How cool is that! Zallen's Blessing

We are going to bless Zallen here in Chula Vista on Oct 18, 2009. Everyone is invited to come. I need to know especially from Bret/Becki, Barry/Lisa, Ryne/Tami if you guys are planning on coming and who is wanting to go to the BYU game the day before (3pm). For those wanting to go to the game, tickets range from $11 to $35 - any preferences?? Also, for those planning on coming, I'm going to have a full day planned on Saturday (possibilities are the temple, Free Crossfit workout, Mexican lunch in Oldtown, the game, dinner, dessert, etc), so it'd be best if you could be here by Friday night, that way we can fit in a full day of San Diego vacation on Saturday. If more people will be coming than we can put up in our house, I'll find out the best/closest local hotel. Let me know. Thanks. See ya'll soon.

LEGOLAND!

We're pretty lucky to live so close to so many cool attractions; SD Zoo, Seaworld and Legoland all within a half hour drive. We went to Legoland for the first time today and the kids loved it.

Everywhere you look there are people, animals and other things made purely out of legos. It's really quite amazing.

There was an entire area called Miniland that depicted miniturized cities, building, cars, etc that was pretty neat.

There were lots of rides. This is the only one that Milea cried on. Give Milea a little credit...this kiddie train was hauling booty.

Hiking Mt. Baldy

Dad and I went hiking in the White Mountains in and around Mt. Baldy this past weekend. We hiked 8 miles on the first day, got to use our raingear when the rain and hail came down, and camped on top of the mountain that night. I ate my MREs for dinner and breakfast. The next day we completed the loop by hiking 11 miles out. We heard and saw elk, some baby turkeys and lots of chipmunks and squirrels. We filtered all out water from a beautiful crystal-clear mountain stream, saw many breath-taking vistas and lots of pretty wildflowers. Dad's feet were aching by the last few miles and I heard murmurings of a certain pack being TOO heavy. Good times! Definitely a beautiful part of the world.

Channing Hall

I don' t think I've filled everyone in on my new job at Channing Hall.  I love it! Channing Hall is an International Baccalaureate charter school, 4 years old, in Draper, Utah. (www.channinghall.org) It is k-8. I am teaching both 7th and 8th graders. I teach Career Technical Education (CTE) to the 7th graders, which is all year long and  focuses on career exploration, business, technology, and home-ec. I have 4 periods that I teach that. I also teach FACS to one period of 8th graders. FACS is a semester long elective class and covers relationships, food/nutrition, cooking, sewing, childcare, and interior design. School started 3 weeks ago and every day just gets better and better. I have great students and work with great people. I am loving having my own classroom and doing things my own way. Junior high kids are really funny too and keep me laughing. They are obsessed with popping popcorn, so my classroom always smells like popcorn (burnt popcorn actually) and they are still in the stage where they think the opposite sex has cooties and so they won't sit by each other. They say the funniest things too. The other day 2 students asked me if my teeth ever get cold (from smiling so much, of course!) I am very happy there. Oh, and on Friday I got my first REAL paycheck, which was very exciting! Here are some pictures of part of my unfinished classroom before school started

Lake time with the Crosby Crew
