The rest of September went something like this...
LaVerl continues with his cancer treatments. We leave for Phoenix on Tuesdays so we can be at Mayo Clinic on Wednesdays for his lab work and infusions. We usually come home after he is done. Then one week later we do that again. After that treatment we have a 'by' week, so we can stay home almost 13 days in a row. He just finished his 3rd cycle, which is 2 weeks on and 1 week off. He is scheduled for 12! On Oct. 9th he will also have a bone scan because his hips really hurt him sometimes and a CT scan to see if all these treatments are working!! Then we start cycle #4.

He was feeling good enough last week to fix a water line! He even got on the ride lawn mower for a little bit!!
His friend brought over an infra-red machine that is supposed to help kill cancer, so he gets under that a couple of hours a day!

His fishing buddy, Ron Cole, brought over 8 full gallon bags of elder berries that they picked. They were all de-stemmed and clean. Wow! All I had to do was steam them and I made just the juice for medicinal use, some jelly and pancake syrup.
About a year ago, Mark gave us this huge world map so I could keep track of all the Crosby missionaries and where they went. I finally got it done this month.
Because LaVerl can't do all the things I want done, I asked our kids to come have a weekend work project. Tami ram-rodded getting the message out. I had a list of 10 things and they got them all done!! All our bushes were way over-grown. My root cellar had been flooded for about 4 months from a water leak, so we had to clean that. They buried our Starlink cable that has been exposed over a year. Our old wagon got painted, our fire pit cleaned out, my 3 dead forsythia's got cut down, wood brought into the garage for us when it starts to get cold, they cut all the dead branches out of my trees, and they helped with my yard sale!
We filled LaVerl's big dump trailer twice!
We threw away cans and cans of TVP (tenderized vegetable protein) that was at least 40 years old!!

Then, right in the middle of our hard work, as I was shoveling some dirt, trying to help, I bent over and a branch sticking up went right into my left eye!! I knew it was BAD, it hurt like crazy!! We called Mark, our own ER Dr. and he said, get down to the ER now! I was so bummed!! I had planned a fun, work filled weekend and now I ruined it! Our little hospital doesn't have an ophthalmologist on staff, so I had to be flown out on a plane to Osborn Scotsdale hospital. Sweet Lisa came with me and so she missed out on spending time with her siblings and her Dad.

There was a big chunk of wood in my eye and they were afraid to remove it in case it had 'punctured my globe' which is very serious. If they pull it out and then my eye fluid starts leaking out, I would lose my eye. So they flew me to Phoenix!!
This big chunk and a few other little pieces got taken out of my eye!
Lisa was so great to come with me and miss out on time at home. Plus she documented the whole thing with pictures!
So, there we were in Phoenix without a car. Sherry volunteered Garrett to come get us and he did. We stopped at Mom's to see her, she was very worried about me, then he drove us another 25 minutes out to Queen Creek where Lisa lives. So nice. I had a painful night trying to sleep. Saturday, J'net and Bryan came and got me and brought me back to Eagar, they were planning on coming Monday, but came early to bring me home. Family is the best!!
I got home in time to say good-bye to Bret and Tami as they had to drive back to Queen Creek. Kari stayed until Sunday morning. I'm feeling very blessed to have such great kids, that are willing to give up their time away from their own families to come help here at home. I'm feeling very blessed that Bret was able to give me a priesthood blessing and then believing my eye would be ok and it is!! It's red and swollen and oozing and very sensitive to light, but I can see!!
