After leaving Bret's house I headed to my folks to spend a couple of weeks with them. Sonja just left that morning after spending her 3 weeks, so now it was my turn. I was going to stop at Lisa's and say good-bye to them, but decided I'd better just get over there, it was already 6:30pm by then.
When I walked in the door Mom hugged me and then said, "you need to see what Dad did to his arm!"
Oh my goodness!!
He was trying to put a big band-aid across it, but I told him to wait and let me look at it closer. Upon closer inspection, I could definitely tell that he needed stitches!! I could see little fatty cells where it was gapped open! Dad did NOT want stitches or to go to the Urgent Care to get them. I had to decide- no stitches means more chance of infection, chance of not healing properly and taking longer to heal, but NOT dying. VERSUS- getting stitches- better chance of not getting an infection, better healing and faster, but also YES, better chance of dying if he was exposed to COVID-19!
I asked him if he knew any Dr.'s in their ward and it so happened that his Home teaching partner was a Dr. I called and he came!
I mostly wanted a second opinion, and yes he said that Dad needed stitches.
He also said he would help bandage it up if Dad insisted on not going to the ER, so I ran to the store for butter-fly strips. It was very difficult to pull the skin together, he even lifted up the flap of skin in the center with tweezers to move it over (something I could never had done)! Ouch!! Dad's whole forearm had bruised because he's on Cumidin and bleeds easily.
He got him all back together as best he could and told me to watch for infection! This morning the bruising had gone up past his elbow! Boy! Never a dull moment!!
I was so glad I didn't stop to visit Lisa and got right over here!
Mom said right after it happened, "I wish Shelley was here!" and a few minutes later, I was!
