We all know that WORK comes before PLAY, and that is what we have been doing. We have a little rental house, Chad lived in it awhile, but mostly we have been just renting it out. Recently we had some renters that pretty much 'trashed' it, so we had to basically start over. They put holes in the walls, kicked the doors in and ruined the locks, two fronts of the drawers in the kitchen were gone, and they left the place filthy! We (mostly LaVerl) took the carpet out of the living room and bedroom, took down all the old fans, removed the toilet, hot water heater and appliances (once I cleaned the filth off) filled in all the holes and took off the doors. Then the fun began! We painted the whole house a nice Woodland lawn, it looks white. We decided to put all new flooring down so he had to scrap some of the old linoleum off in the living room and that was a killer. It was on to stay, he scraped HARD for hours getting one little area off. The rest of the house we just put the sub-flooring over it. We had to fit the sub-flooring in like puzzle pieces, but finally that was done. He put up all new fans with lights that look super nice. We got new doors too. It looks like a new house!!
THE WORK!!
The reviews we read about the flooring we bought, (it was a peel and stick wood looking plank), were not good, so we took every precaution to put it on right. First I painted the sub-flooring with a primer which made it sort of glossy.
Then LaVerl put down a thin layer of adhesive in an area just before we layed it down. It was hard work fitting it all in tight!
I got to cut and measure too, and peel off the paper and hand each piece to him.
It took us a couple of days, but we think it looks great. We had a flooring guy give us a price and he wanted $800 just to lay the sub-flooring, which was probably a fair price, it was a lot of work! So we saved some money doing it ourselves!
Oh, we had to take all the base-boards off too, repaint and put back on. The bedroom and kitchen got all new baseboards.

We got it all cleaned up, I had to take the blinds down and soak them in bleach, they had black mold growing on them, got the doors hung, (that was major, lots of trips to the shop, hauling the door, to plane off the sides and bottom to get them to fit) putting back on the cover plates, etc, etc. Lots of little things that took forever it seemed!! But we are finally done!! Now we just need to find the PERFECT renters!!
ON TO THE PLAYING!!
We headed up to Utah to go to BYU Education Week and got to be there for Blake's #6 birthday party too. What a special little boy he is. He also started kindergarten! He's growing up too fast!!
I made him another super hero cape and mask- Thor, including the hammer and some 'Spidy' gloves. Also some super hero lego guys with vehicles that he had to put all together.

Blake wanted a 'Shark' birthday party!! He's been reading about sharks and really likes them.

And of course, a shark cake!! Super delicious! Everything was super fun, so glad we got to be there for it!!
Tuesday we were off to Education week!! Our good friends, Nancy and Randell Penrod came too! It was a week full of going to classes, spending time with Aunt Nan, going out to eat, going to the Payson temple, and just having a great time!!
Working is OK, but Playing is great!!
