ANOTHER PROJECT- Except it was BRET'S!

We went to Queen Creek this weekend to help Bret put a kitchen in his 'Casita' that he will be renting out now. When he bought the house the owners rented this part of the house out, so it originally had a kitchen, fridge and washer & dryer in the garage. They took all that out, but now he is putting all that back in. He had to buy new cabinets, a used fridge and I found a microwave on Craigslist that was like new and a washer and dryer.

The cabinets didn't get delivered until after 3pm on Friday but they kept busy hanging fans and putting in lights. LaVerl got on you- tube to learn how to hang cabinets and they look good. My husband is AMAZING!  He can do just about anything!

 Lots of pieces to put together! I did help a little. I repainted one wall and put the shelves in once the cabinets were in. I also made dinner, watched the kids and put them to bed so they could keep working till about 11pm!

 The uppers were the hardest to hang.

 Once the bottom cabinets were set, the counter top went on.

 They had to hang the microwave, cut out for the sink, put in the garbage disposal and faucet, then plumb it all in! That was the hardest part, LaVerl is an electrician, not a plumber! 

But it all works good!

The finished (almost) project. Bret still has to trim it all out and put the toe kicks on. Its going to be super nice I think. Lisa is already using the fridge, hers is not working right now!!

While Lisa and I took Kingston and Lilly to Bosa Donuts for smoothie's, Barry texted her this cute picture of their two youngest- holding hands!!

 The plan was to get done by 3:30 on Saturday so LaVerl could watch the BYU game, and Bret had made plans to go to a baseball game with a friend. They ran a little late, but eventually got it done! We didn't head home until around 7pm.

Another project DONE!!!

We can check off another project DONE! We've been working on our big shed by our house that has been neglected for 20+ years! It has our food storage in the front half and 'junk/jewels' stored in the back half with a root cellar underneath. We wanted it to match our house that we had painted last year. The prep work was lots more work than the actually painting.

First LaVerl had to cut down all the bushes that had grown too close to the shed. He had to make a two foot walk-way around the building so we could get around it to work.

 Then he had to fill several holes in the stucco caused by the bushes and the wind. After that he took his pressure washer to knock off all the loose paint under the eaves.

 

The next morning he filled all the smaller holes with an acrylic caulking then painted the fascia and all the very weathered wood with primer. 

 Another morning he spray painted all under the eaves and wood trim with the dark gray. His spray rig he got at a yard sale worked really good.

 The 4th morning he sprayed the stucco with the light gray paint. I didn't get any pictures of that.  Then we had to touch up with a roller all the dark gray under the eaves from the over spray of the light gray.

Saturday we put on all the metal fascia for the finishing touch! 

 It was a good little project that really needed done! We just took several hours each morning for a week to get it done. (Well, one morning he went fishing!) Now it looks so much better and will now last another 20 years hopefully!

One evening LaVerl brought home a bunch of concord grapes from a place he was doing some electrical work on. They didn't know what to do with them and were giving them away. I had a sink full, I wish I would've taken pictures, they were beautiful. I made 6 quarts of grape juice from them. Its yummy!

 I also put 12 quarts of corn in the freezer from our garden!  
 It was a good week!  Now on to our next project!

Things on the Home Front!

Dad & I have been working hard trying to clean up around the place! We moved several wood piles and stacked it all up nice! Still lots to do, but things are looking better!

Lisa brought me home from after watching Bret's kids for a week. She enjoyed the nice cool weather, so did Lilly!

Coming home from Utah

Since Monday was Labor Day and a holiday, that's when we drove home. We decided to come home the scenic route, through Kanab and Jacob's Lake. It's a little longer, but much prettier.  We stopped at this cave that was really cool. It was called Moqui Cave.

Its been owned by the Chamberlain family for years.

They recently add all the new rock work.

 Inside is now a museum. Originally it started out as a bar and dance hall that his grandfather originally put in. Because Hollywood was making movies in the area, with lots of people coming, what everyone wanted was alcohol and somewhere to go that was cool and out of the heat. The cave was perfect.  He made the bar stools and inlaid all the beautiful rock on the counters.

 Then we found out from talking to the owner, that his grandfather played football for BYU back in 1945 and was the first player to ever get drafted into the NFL. He then played for the Steelers.

 He was one talented guy! He was called 'Chief Chamberlain'. The bronze statue of the eagle he's holding was his first attempt at sculpting.

 He carved this family portrait from the picture above in 5 months and each person is numbered and labeled who they are!

 

 The museum was full of lots of Indian pottery, all kinds of rocks and minerals, bones from dinosaurs and lots of interesting things.

 I just thought the barrel full of flowers and the fountain were cool!

Maybe LaVerl could make me a fountain like this?
