Oregon Trip - Tillamook, my hometown!

 Aug. 3 - Day 2

Our first morning at the beach house we wake up to FOG! Its so thick, everything is wet like it rained. The house is located on the side of a hill, so after a little breakfast and wishing Lisa a HAPPY BIRTHDAY,  we head to the beach to explore!

 

Oceanside Beach has a cool tunnel that takes you to another beach with lots of tide pools!

 

After exploring the beach, the girls had a little workout session! All I can say is that they are in really great shape and I'm definitely out of shape!

Today was seeing all my old 'stomping grounds'.  We drove by all the old houses I lived in, the hospital I was born, we went by Swiss Grandma's grave, visited Alma, my Mom's 1st cousin who is 96 and still lives alone and keeps a beautiful flower garden. We drove by my old high school, home of the 'Cheesemakers', and saw both the little building we used to go to church in and the new ward building.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our favorite stop was the Tillamook Cheese Factory. We had to schedule a time to go in and it was a self guided tour, but we stayed a couple of hours. After the tour we had to get ice cream!

We also had to see the huge Navy Blimp hanger which now houses the Tillamook Air Museum. The Hanger is the largest clear-span wooden structure in the world. It was constructed in 1942 during World War II . It is 1.072 feet long and 296 feet wide, giving it over 7 acres of area.  It stands 192 feet tall.  Its HUGE!

We found a taco truck with GREAT food! We ate here twice!

About 4pm we headed to Cape Meares to hike the trails.

One of the trails led to the largest Sitka Spruce in Oregon.

The Octopus Tree is another Sitka Spruce.

 We ended the day celebrating Lisa's birthday with cake and Tillamook ice cream!
