Our 46th wedding anniversary was January 21st, but we didn't do anything special, so LaVerl told me to book a cruise, so I did! We flew into LA and got onboard beautiful Celebrity Solstice Feb. 11th-18th.
DAY 1
We headed to the airport early from Roosevelt to catch our flight on Sat. We had a beautiful sunrise behind us!
We called an Uber to take us from the airport to the Port of Los Angeles and then boarded our ship.DAY 2
We went to Catalina Island for the day and it was amazing. I learned that the Wrigleys (the gum people) own most of the island and built a beautiful mansion there. Now their kids have built their own mansions and everyone on the island knows and loves them. We took an open bus tour of the island and then toured the "Casino". Wow! This was a theater that showed the first talking movies and had a huge 'floating' dance floor above the theater.
All the inside is still in its original state.
This was an interesting room off to the side. It contains the original army food storage containers with MRE's and other essentials for survival. The people on the island used some of the toilet paper stored there during the Covid pandemic.
The best seats were in the back because the sound was best there.
This was one of 5 organs built that cost $5000 back in 1930!

The ramps going from the theater to the ballroom were wide enough to move a lot of people. Ferry's would bring 1500 people a night over 26 miles across the bay from LA to enjoy a 'talking movie' and dancing.
The ladies bathroom was pretty fancy and modern for 1930.
The performers dressing rooms were really nice too.
The old movie projectors were so cool.
We also took an open bus tour of Avalon.

That night's entertainment was a magic show with James Cielen! So amazing!!!
DAY 3 at SEA
We rode the elevators a LOT! We ate lots of good food, which I didn't remember to take any pictures of. We went to the fitness center, we laid out by the pool and got into the hot tubs, went to a movie, saw to glass blowing and RELAXED!!
Valentines Day!
LaVerl bought me a new wedding ring!!
There were lots of activities onboard to go and do. Dance classes, games shows, archery, etc. We explored the ship from top to bottom, ate more food, went to the evenings entertainment.
DAY 5
CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO
We took a boat tour out to the Arch of Cabo San Lucas. The water was clear and green and we could see all kinds of fish swimming. Then more onboard activities, so fun.
There was a tree growing in the middle part of the ship!
The shows were fantastic!! Amazing performers!
Lots of people just enjoyed dancing to the live music.
DAY 6 at SEA
More relaxing, eating, shows, exercising, reading, etc.
Hayden Smith could play the saxophone, guitar and sing!!
"Cheaza" was a show honoring Whitney HoustonMidship foyer where they had lots of activities.It was a beautiful ship!We spent a lot of time at 'Guest Relations'. I lost my sea pass twice, LaVerl lost his once, we had some noise in our stateroom and had to change rooms. One night they just moved us to an inside stateroom to sleep, but the next night we moved to a balcony room on deck 6.
DAY 7
SAN DIEGO
We decided we wanted to spend the day in San Diego at the temple. We had a hard time getting there, however. I called an Uber, but he couldn't find us and we couldn't find him. After 45 minutes, I finally called another one and he got us there just in time to make the 11:30 session, with only minutes to spare. It was a miracle!
DAY 8 at SEA
then back to Port of Los Angeles
Such a fun way to spend a week with my sweetheart!!
