London .....

DAY 4-- Friday Sept. 12th 

Today was our river cruise on the Thames River then on to see the Tower of London.  This is not just a tower, it's a whole place. A place where the Crown Jewels are kept and where lots the prisoners were sent. It was built by William the Conqueror in the 1070's and it took 20 years to build.  

We got up and ate a little breakfast. We still had to ride buses to take us where we needed to go to catch our river cruise because of the Strike on the trains and tube. We just left it up to Hank to figure it all out.

LaVerl was lagging today so he rested while he could.

They would keep exotic animals in the Tower and had superstitions about Ravens.

We all wanted to see the Crown Jewels first. They are well protected by huge vault doors, but were all on display to see. WOW! No photos were allowed to be taken!

They still have guards posted to guard them.

After touring the Tower, we ate at Subway, then got back on the River cruise boat and went on down stream a ways. 

They even have a walking bridge to cross the Thames River.

You can even walk UNDER the Thames River!

We got off the boat at Covent Garden Station, had a good dinner at the Nagshead pub and then rushed over to watch the play, "Momma Mia" in a theater near there. They were turning down the lights when we arrived.

Our seats were in the very top balcony, but front row!

Momma Mia was wonderful! I loved all the songs by ABBA in the musical and the cast was amazing, and the choreography was the best. I 

I LOVED every minute of it!!

Going home was so much faster and easier-the tubes were OPEN!.

Another day of adventures and fun in LONDON.

 London Day 3 Sept. 11th

What a Fun day we had! First we got our own driver with a van that would hold all 6 of us. We had a 2 hour drive through the beautiful English countryside- green fields, cows, sheep, & horses. I got a little car sick and he had to pull over for me to throw up!!  I felt a little sick most of the morning. 

Our first stop was Bath. I didn't know that London had such a Roman history. Bath is a town of 96,000 people but the big attraction here are the Roman pools. It's all amazing how the did it!

I got totally lost trying to find my way around in the maze of paths.

Next stop- the little village in Cotswolds called Castle Combe, looks like it could be the set of a medieval movie!  It was amazing! (Now I'm sitting in the front with the driver to avoid getting car sick!) 

The roof tiles on all the houses are made of flat stone!

And fences are also all stones!

As are the roads-- stones! Cobblestones!

The houses are stone too!

Last stop was Windsor Castle- so cool! Its huge!!

These slits were for the guns or arrows to fit through!

They filled in the moat with grass and ponds.

Later that night we ate fish and chips at a Pub nearby. Yum!
