Last Day in London!

Monday Sept. 15, DAY 7

Our time is almost gone here in London, but I think we got to see and do lots of fun things while we were here. We probably never would have ventured here by ourselves, but with Hank & Debbie and Clifford and Tammie as our guides and friends, we did it! And we loved it! Today, our last day, we took the tube to Notting Hill and found some antique shops. Hank was looking for an old 'door knocker' for his new door on his house. Then we walked down to Portobello Road/Market and did some more shopping, went to a see 'Downton Abbey' at the Electric theater, then ate at Five Guys. I think our order was over $50! 

Their Movie popcorn in a bag is sure not the same as home, but their seats were way better than ours!!

Sunday in London!

It was a rainy day all day! LaVerl & I got up early to find a good breakfast place so he could eat some real food! Just down the road a half a block, we ate at La Brioche. He had a big sausage, 2 slices of ham, a sunny side up egg, pork and beans with 2 slices of white bread that I ate. He was happy.  We all met up at 10am to walk about 10 minutes down to where the LDS church is. After church we heard some people talking about being from Queen Creek, so Hank stopped to talk with them. We found out that Micah has been their Stake president for years!!  Small world!! After lunch we rode the tube down to Hyde Park which is a 350 acre Royal park, the largest of all the parks. Hank wanted to show us where they used to go to preach the gospel to a crowd of people. The missionaries don't go there anymore.

We ate a delicious lunch- I had Sunday Roast dinner and LaVerl had the fish and chips again. Yumma!!

We rode the tube back to South Kensington and ate dessert at a little restaurant. I wish I would've taken a picture of my warm brownie with a scoop of pistachio ice cream on top--so good! A wonderful Sabbath Day- maybe not our typical Sabbath day, but great!

London continues....

Day 5--Saturday Sept. 13th

Today was a great day. We were at the London Temple! We wouldn't have been able to go if the Strike had continued because first we rode the tube to the train station, then rode the train for about 45 minutes to Lingfield Station. It was a beautiful ride through the country side of England. The temple is way out of London.

The temple is located in Newchapel, County of Surrey.

Church President David O. McKay announced the London temple to be built in 1952. It was dedicated 3 years later. 

The old Manor House that was on the property when the church bought it was rebuilt. The England government wouldn't sell the church any land back in the 1950's. They thought we were a cult, but Winston Churchill had a different opinion and sold the church some of his property to build the temple on. It was originally a swamp according to the security guard and still is, but inside the information calls it, "the most famous landscape gardens of England".

The gate house is a lot older than the Manor House.

We started talking to the security guy who has worked there for 35 years and he took us into the Manor House which still has some of the original furniture.

After the temple, we walked about a mile to a nice Pub called the Peacock and had a wonderful lunch! Then called a taxi to go to the train station, rode the train 45 min back to London and that was the end of a wonderful day.
