Activities for the week!

 We've been busy here at the camp. There is always things to keep us busy, besides all the mowing we do. But we do have time to go do some fun things too. We went to Watkins Glen to check it out. The main gorge trail was closed, but we hiked around an upper trail. The 100 year old stone bridge walkway is being reinforced, so they have added an aluminum bridge for safety.

They have made some major changes since we were there in 2010. The place where there was parking before is now all a nice walkway and park.

Since the main trail was closed, we took a different one and it was cool to look down on the trail below.

The 'girls' cleaned the BIG commercial kitchen while the 'guys' fixed things.

We had fun planting flowers to beautify the place!

After we cleaned for hours, Brother & Sister Harmer made us all lunch. Bro. Harmer made some really good bread and the best cinnamon bread I've ever tasted. Better than cinnamon rolls!

Sunday afternoon we took off to go visit the Peter Whitmer Farm. The service missionaries there are the Jone's. They gave us a great tour.

In this log home, the church was officially organized and they had the first sacrament ordinance there. A very special place.

It's still Spring here and lots of trees are in bloom. We've got some things in the garden coming up too.

This is the momma & daddy goose and their 4 babies that hatched over by the pond at the camp. We saw them on our 2 miles walk.

I'm not saying WHO got suck in the mud while mowing and had to be pulled out, but it wasn't me and it wasn't LaVerl!

Another Week--more adventures!

 This week, the Senior Service Missionary Department told us they couldn't find our missionary applications online. We told them we never filled any out, it was all by word of mouth. We were asked to come and we came. So now, instead of it being a 'stake calling', we are  in the missionary dept. of service missionaries and things are done differently and we are having to 'jump through a few hoops'.

We got a better picture at the church when the Harmer's got set apart.

This week we cleaned down on the beach front. This little house is called the 'Round House', because it's round! This is where the senior missionary couple live that run all the water activities when the youth are here. They have to be 'certified' in everything! 

One morning last week it was so cold that the water froze up in our trailer! It was the morning we were going to the temple, so we both needed to shower!! We had to go down to the bathroom facilities and use the shower down there. 

Before we can mow, we have to pick up all the dead, fallen branches on the ground. This is one of many loads we haul to the big burn pile.

There are lots of geese here by the lake. We had a momma goose sitting on some eggs by our little pond. They hatched out last week and she immediately took them to the lake.

Here in New York, they have a tree called 'Osage Orange' and it is a really beautiful, super hard wood. LaVerl has been reading about it and it was once used to make bearings! LaVerl has been cutting it up in one inch rounds and I'm using them as hot plates! I want to take some home to the kids, after all, we do have Osage Indian in us all!

One morning we got up to walk our two miles and it was super foggy outside. We were 'wet' when we got home!

LaVerl is now trained on how to run the 'Batwing' mower. It is a 12 foot wide mower that he pulls behind this tractor. He can mow a lot fast! The smaller 'grasshopper' mowers are the ones we use to get in the places he can't.

After each mowing we have to clean all our machines.

This is the big 'amphitheater'. One of the Stakes wants a 

big service project, so this is it. All the benches need to be raised about 4 inches and then it all needs to be cleaned up!

We had some grandkids have birthdays! Eliana is now 6 and Gabriel turned 5 years old. Eliana got an American Girl doll and they went to a hairdresser and got their hair fixed exactly the same. Gabey had his party at a fire station! We miss them!
