Fun Halloween Time

 I'm a little late posting the grandkids Halloween pictures, but here they are. They have fun dressing up and that includes Bret!! He walked into a Burger King dressed up like this and demanded nuggets and fries. He only got a few crowns and had to buy the food he wanted to pass out at their Ward party. Honey is a waffle fry and the puppies are the chicken nuggets and the white ones are the cows.

Ivory won a prize in her pumpkin contest at school.

Halloween is a silly holiday, but the kids sure have fun.

Home AGAIN!

 We are so happy to be home again!! We got home a week ago, on Oct 22nd. Tami came home with us and she has been such a great help. She flew in from Idaho Falls the day LaVerl got released from the hospital and her and Lisa came over to Aunt J'net's to see their Dad. Later, Bret and London came over too and he brought his juicer so we could taste some that he makes and see how it all works. I guess LaVerl has been talking to the kids about how healthy juicing is and that he wanted to start doing that to help fight his cancer. When we arrived home, we had a big box on the porch from Reed. It was a brand new juicer and Kari had sent a juice recipe book. We sure have great kids!

When we got home we found one of our trees that had died, had fallen across the chicken coop, the wind had really been blowing!

Tami got me all organized! We went to the store and bought lots of fresh veggies, ginger, and fruit. Then we organized them in 'ready to juice' bags! 

Tami got a lot done when she was here. She ordered some railings for our stairs, she ordered some soft toilet pads because the hard seats hurt LaVerl because he has no butt!! She found some good natural cancer protocols online to try, since LaVerl doesn't want to continue with the chemo that almost killed his kidneys and him!

We had another water leak in our sprinkler system that Randell had to fix. That poor man, all he does is fix our problems!

Tonight a group of young men from the church came over for a service project. They cut up and removed the tree that had fallen and then burned all the broken branches. They are going to come back when it's not dark and split the wood and then play on the zip line.

Hospital Life.....

 We came down to Phoenix last week for some tests and a cancer treatment, expecting to go home in 2 days. LaVerl did all the tests on Wednesday and those took all day. On Thursday, Oct 10th, we were supposed to have a meeting with the oncologist, then do his cancer treatment. They called early that morning and told us to go directly to the ER, that LaVerl's kidneys were not functioning well. We have been in the hospital now for 11 days, but I think today he is getting out! He had a blood transfusion, a catheter put in and a feeding tube, but both are out now! He gained 9 pounds, but is still having to mostly drink his food. 

Dave and Mary were his first visitors. 

Then Lisa and Bret came by. They both really cheered him up.

Other visitors were Merrell and Blanche Hamblin, Ron and Marilyn Cole,  Kirk, Rivers, Elijah and Sherry and Ted.  He's had lots of phone calls and texts messages sending lots of love and prayers for him from family and friends. We know we are loved! J'net and Bryan have given me a home away from home, a comfortable bed to sleep in, great food to nourish me and always uplifting encouragement.  My sister Sonja and Randy have called everyday and my Mom at 99 years is still the one I call and cry to. 

I drive 45 minutes each way from J'nets house in Chandler and arrive at the hospital by 8am usually then don't drive home until 6 or 7. I have to time it to avoid the traffic! It's scary!

The hospital staff have got his kidneys functioning better and on the road to recovery, but it will take a couple more weeks. They helped stop the throwing up and got him eating/drinking 4 Nepro drinks per day and he has gained 10 pounds. They are controlling his pain in his hips, back and shoulders better and so we are ready to go home! Its been a long 11 days!

Home Life!

J'net, LaVerl's sister is in town and took me to lunch at a new place that just opened. She is such a sweetie! I was wearing sunglasses to cover my still swollen and red eye, but took them off for this picture.

My neighbor, MaryAnn, had a huge garden and she had used all the cucumbers she wanted and said I could come pick. I brought home 2 five gallon buckets full. She also gave me her recipe for bread and butter pickles. I made 32 pints! It took me all day!

J'net and Bryan also came over and we played some 5 Crowns.

LaVerl spends most of his time like this- just sleeping or resting. Sometimes he feels good enough to get some sunshine outside. I can't get him to eat anything, so he drinks protein drinks and gatorades. He is still losing weigh and getting weaker, it's real scary!! I hate it!
